THE BIG THREE


Family, History & Personality:

The Maddock family, like the Weasleys, is large, mad, and redheaded; unlike the Weasleys they are Muggle farmers and carpenters. Indy has eight brothers and five sisters, and an extensive extended family, none of whom have ever shown a bit of magical talent. However, they are supportive and enthusiastic both where Indy is concerned, and even his jealous and disbelieving siblings have come to cheer him on after his first successful year at Hogwarts. As far as siblings go, there are fourteen children total.

As the only wizard in his family, Indy is even more seperated from them than he was before. His whole family is totally magic-less, so none of them had ever heard of Hogwarts before Indy got his letter. His parents were married twenty-five years ago, and have since bred a literal army of crazy Maddock children to run the farm. There's not much special about the Maddocks, and Indiana is determined to change that, to make his name something to be respected in the wizarding world, even if it came from the Muggle one. Their farm is one last patch of green land in a very urbanized area, and they struggle to keep it productive.

Indy is wild, manic, and a little bit hyperactive. Most suspect the senile old hat should have put him in Gryffindor because he's so cheerful, or Ravenclaw for his endless curiosity - until they spot his quick little hands sliding into someone's pocket, or the smug little smirk that curves his lips when he tricks people into giving him information or things he wants. He's a conniving little bugger, but it's hard to see under the happy-go-lucky attitude; altogether, he's usually disregarded out of sheer annoyance, seen as beyond care, but he's often behind the scene putting the right words into the right ears and steering things and people where he wants him. He's manipulative, but charming, for all his spastic manner, and is always difficult to predict, if only because he is neither evil nor good, but finds it quite amusing to watch them fight between one another.

Indiana is also a practiced pickpocket, and is very good at sleight of hand. He is very enthusiastic, very shameless, and quite precocious. A prodigy by any terms, he nonetheless doesn't brag about his intelligence; he's more prone to simply delivering some cutting sarcasm and saving the bulk of his knowledge for his classwork. Never one to slack, he often manages to be ahead on his work, always reading ahead and often doing extra research just out of curiosity. As the eleventh child of fourteen, he wasn't very priviliged growing up; he and all his siblings are keen, but he is the only one to be invited to Hogwarts.

Indy is very used to already knowing most of what people are trying to teach him and at times it makes him a little arrogant, but the sheer depth and strangeness of the wizarding world shocked him into caution. As a result, he makes a habit of devouring any information he can find about magic, be it silly Muggle superstition or otherwise. Even today he is intent on not being labeled unfit to become a wizard; he is well accustomed to studying. Always a little bit left out by his six older brothers, Indy is something of a loner, and something of a brat, never hesitating to speak too honestly to people even if it earns him their ire or hate. His own hate is diffcult to earn, but once it has been, it never wavers.

His parents were very surprised when he got his letter. After being Sorted into Slytherin by the smugly chuckling Hat, he learned very quickly how not to give a damn about being called a Mudblood. Indy is very intelligent, very sarcastic, and quite willful. Being Muggleborn, his idea of what magic can do isn't as boxed in as many peoples'. Therefore he spends a lot of his time trying to invent new spells, or potions, or make a Walkman function on magical power. But not nearly as much of his time as he spends messing with people.

With a cutting tongue and far more practicality than any fifth-year has a right to, if he hasn't earned grudging respect, then his fellow students at least ignore him rather than antagonise him outright. Especially because he's quick with a wand, likes strange and unusual hexes, and also has a tendency to pick pockets if given the chance. No need for the Disarming Curse if you've got their wand and they don't even notice it's missing. ~_^

Pragmatic, appreciative of irony, clever, and determined are all words one could use to describe Indy. His family lives on a ramshackle farm - a pack of poor redheads, because you can't have a massive, broke family WITHOUT red hair.
